Repeater mode connects to the main router over WiFi. The reliable sequence is to configure beside the router, verify internet access and relocate only afterward.

Repeater mode
The extender receives the host router over WiFi and rebroadcasts service.
AP mode
The device receives network service through a cable and creates WiFi.
Prepare the extender beside the host router
Confirm the main router works before changing the extender. Record the exact router SSID, wireless password and security mode. Select Repeater on any physical mode switch before power-up, attach the documented antennas and wait for startup to complete.
Do the first configuration in the same room. Final placement comes only after the new extended network works. Starting in the weak room makes a wrong password and a weak uplink look like the same fault.
Join the factory network and open local management
- Open WiFi settings and join the factory SSID printed on the extender label.
- Remain connected when the phone says the network has no internet.
- Temporarily disable mobile data, VPN and proxy routing.
- Enter the supported local hostname in the browser address bar.
- Create or enter the administrator password requested by that firmware.
The administrator password protects the settings page. It is separate from the router WiFi password used for the wireless backhaul.
Select the host SSID and save the correct WiFi password
Scan for the main router and choose the intended 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz SSID. Verify spelling carefully when several nearby networks look similar. Enter the host WiFi key, choose the extended SSID names and apply the settings once.
Wait through the complete reboot without removing power. Then leave the factory network and join the new extended SSID. If the router uses band steering, WPA3-only security or a hidden name, check the exact extender’s compatibility before changing router security.
Expected result: A connected client receives a private IP address and loads unrelated websites through the extender.
Relocate without losing the wireless backhaul
Move the extender partway toward the weak area—not directly into it. Check the model’s router-link indicator and perform real browsing, call and video tests. A strong phone-to-extender signal does not prove that the extender-to-router link is healthy.
If service disappears only after moving, return one outlet closer to the router. If it never works beside the router, correct the selected SSID and saved host password before resetting.
Choose browser setup when WPS hides the cause of failure
WPS is convenient when both devices support compatible pairing, but its indicator cannot explain whether the wrong band, security mode or stale configuration caused failure. Use the browser workflow when two careful WPS attempts do not complete. It shows the host SSID and lets you enter its password deliberately.
Do not press the recessed Reset button while trying to locate WPS. Reset removes the configuration; WPS or Pair starts a temporary pairing window. Button names and timing vary by model.
Test 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz as separate backhaul decisions
A 5 GHz host link can provide greater nearby capacity but usually weakens faster through walls. A 2.4 GHz link often reaches farther but may face more interference. Dual-band hardware does not prove both bands paired in one operation.
Identify each expected extended SSID and test it. If only one band fails, troubleshoot that band’s host name, channel and security compatibility rather than erasing the complete working configuration.

Does repeater mode need an Ethernet cable to the main router?
Normally the backhaul to the host router is wireless. Some outdoor units still require Ethernet between the radio and PoE injector for power.
Should I repeat 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?
Choose the band that remains stable at the extender location. 2.4 GHz generally reaches farther; 5 GHz can provide more nearby capacity.
Why is the extended WiFi visible but offline?
The extender may be broadcasting locally while its host-router password, band or uplink signal is wrong. Recheck the saved host connection.
