Confirm the router works first

Connect locally to the extender

Update the saved uplink
Open Repeater, Uplink or Wireless settings, select the router SSID and enter the new router WiFi password. Save and wait for reboot.
When the router SSID changed
Rescan for networks and select the new name. If the old router profile remains, remove it from the extender configuration where the firmware allows.

A router security change can matter even when the password text stayed the same. WPA3-only mode, enterprise authentication, hidden SSIDs or a changed 5 GHz channel may not be supported by an older extender. Compare the extender specification and use the strongest mutually supported mode rather than repeatedly entering the same password.
Finally, decide whether the extended-network password should also change. It can remain different from the router password, but users must know which credential joins which SSID. Record the administrator password separately so the next router change does not lead to an unnecessary factory reset.
