Change WAVLINK Extender WiFi Name and Password

Identify which password you are changing

The router WiFi password authenticates the extender to the router. The extended-network password connects phones to the extender. The administrator password protects settings. Confirm the correct field before saving.

Open wireless settings

Connect to the extender, open its current local address or assigned IP and sign in with the administrator password. Look for Wireless, WiFi, SSID or Security. Menu names vary by firmware.

Choose a clear SSID

A distinct name such as Home-EXT simplifies troubleshooting because users can see whether a device is on the router or extender. Matching names can improve convenience but may make roaming problems harder to diagnose.

Set a stronger WiFi password

Use a long unique password and WPA2/WPA3 security supported by both router and extender. Avoid personal information and do not reuse the device administrator password.

Reconnect household devices

Forget the old network profile on phones, televisions and smart devices, then join using the new credential. If one device repeatedly uses the old password, delete its saved network first.

After changing the main router password

The extender may continue broadcasting but lose internet because its saved uplink credential is old. Log in locally and update the router password, or repeat initial setup. Changing only the extended-network password does not update the router.

Avoid locking yourself out after the change

Make one change at a time when possible. Changing the SSID, WiFi password, security mode and administrator password simultaneously makes a failure difficult to diagnose. Start with the wireless name and password, confirm client access, then update the administrator credential separately.

Before saving, check whether the firmware applies settings to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz or presents separate fields. If the two bands share one name, confirm that the same password applies to both. If they use different names, record both accurately.

After reboot, remove the old saved network from one test device and join the new SSID manually. Verify the device receives an IP address and reaches the internet. Then update televisions, printers, cameras and smart-home devices; many will not automatically prompt for the new password.

If the new SSID never appears, connect by Ethernet where supported or use the factory recovery process. Do not assume the main router password changed just because the extender password did. The uplink remains valid until router credentials are altered.
